In the last article we says the advantages Benefiber has over Metamucil.  You can read that article here. After reading that article some of you may be tempted to think that it is better to take Benefiber instead of Psyllium based Metamucil.  But wait a minute.  Wouldn’t you also like to know if there are any advantages which Metamucil has over Beenfiber?  So lets have a look at some of the advantages Metamucil has over Benefiber.

Advantages of Metamucil Over Benefiber

1. Constipation Relief – Metamucil expands in the stomach and it can push out the bowel contents quite easily.  When metamucil reaches the intestines, there is a natural reaction in the intestines which increases the peristaltic movements.  In fact a big portion of people who take Metamucil, take it due to its laxative properties. This benefit is not so prominent in Benefiber as it is a soluble fiber and doesn’t create any roughage.

2. Weight Loss – Another major benefit of Metamucil is its effectiveness in supporting weight loss.  Although Benefiber also helps in weight loss, it cannot beat Psyllium fiber.  Psyllium fiber if taken before meals, can make you take less food and making you feel full at the same time.

3. More Effective Cholesterol control – Metamucil absorbs Cholesterol and helps in maintaining a healthy ratio.  Benefiber is not as effective in cholesterol control as Metamucil.  The reason is Psyllium in Metamucil can trap and absorb cholesterol better than Benefiber and eliminate it.

4. Diarrhea Control – Benefiber cannot control Diarrhea like Metamucil.  Metamucil can be mixed with Yogurt and in this combination it is really effective in controlling the motions. Hence many people who suffer from Diarrhea can easily solve it with Metamucil.  Benefiber does not solve this problem.

Of course as we mentioned before, it is always advisable to take two type of fibers in proper ratio.  We need both of them.  So try to get both type of fibers from your food and then rest from supplements such as Benefiber and Metamucil.
