Apples are one of my favorite fruits.  It is delicious, crunchy, filling and full of healthy nutrients.  Apples can be eaten in many forms.  One of them is the dried form.  Recently a study conducted in Florida State University found that women who ate dried apples for a year decreased their LDL cholesterol – the bad cholesterol by around 24 percent.

They were also able to decrease their cardio vascular disease risk.  At the same time they lost an average of 3 pounds of weight.

This study was documented i  Journal of the American Academy if Nutrition and Dietitians.  The women ate around 2.5 ounces of dried apples daily which is equivalent to 2 fresh apples.

The Reason Behind These Benefits

Apples are good source of soluble fiber called pectin.  Pectin can bring down the LDL cholesterol levels from your body.

Diets which are good source of fiber can reduce the hunger as they make you feel full for longer time.  Fiber also slows down release and absorption of glucose into the blood stream. This is one of the reasons that the women lost an average of 3 pounds of weight.
