How is Suppository Different Than Fiber Supplement

Suppository are inserted into the rectum through the anus.  In the anus it melts and the drug induces movements in the rectum, which causes the colon to push the stool out of the body.  Usually suppository is given when a person or a kid is extremely constipated and not able to pass the stool.

Suppository is usually a one off solution for constipation and in most cases it is used rarely.  In some kids who do not want to pass stool and become constipate suppository can be used more frequently.

Many times Suppository is also used by pregnant ladies who have difficult bowel movements.  In some cases suppository is used before rectal examination or surgical procedures.

Fiber Supplement

Fiber supplements such as Metamucil, on the other hand is essential when we are unable to meet our dietary fiber requirements.  Although fiber supplements also help in having a smooth bowel movement, that is not the main purpose for taking it.

Dietary fiber plays important part in maintaining good health through better heart health, better control of blood sugar and helps in achieving healthy weight.

In many cases it has been observed that dietary fiber has caused the LDL cholesterol levels to become healthy in 6 to 8 weeks.  You can read one such case here where a lady reduced her LDL levels by 56 points.

Suppository is used mainly to clean the rectum and fiber supplements are used to cover for fiber deficiency in the diet since dietary fiber is absolutely essential for good health and needed along with the other macro nutrients such as Carbohydrates, Fats and Protein.
