Today somebody at my workplace brought some desserts.  They were tempting but I knew what those cup cakes would do to my blood sugar levels. Many of us are fond of sweets and various desserts.  The problem with eating desserts and sweet dishes is they cause many health problems when you take them frequently.  Many times even two of them are good enough to take you off track from your food regimen.

Later I was just thinking about if it was possible to enjoy at least some dessert without being too worried.  After all we all deserve something which we crave once in a while.  Then I thought what if some fiber is added.  Here are some ideas on how to enjoy some sweets…

How to take Desserts and Sweets1. Do not take too much sweet at a time.  Divide it into different meal times.

2. Take sweets at the end of a fiber rich meal which includes veggies and some fruits.

3. If you want to enjoy more than 1 or 2 pieces of desserts take one tablespoon of Metamucil or Isabgol with a glass of water first.  Then after 15 minutes to 20 minutes later you can take the desserts.  This will ensure that all the sugar is not absorbed into the body.

4. If you are making the dessert at home, add some Psyllium powder during the cooking process.  Psyllium powder will increase the fiber content and make the dessert less harmful since they help in blood sugar control.

5. Make a rule.  For each dessert you also take a stalk of Celery.  Or take half a bowl of salad.  You will be able to cut your weight gain risk to a large extent if you do this.  However you need to take the salad immediately after the dessert.  Better still take it before taking the dessert.

6. Do not take desserts often  Once a week is a good balance.  It helps you enjoy your dessert and in fact quite acceptable to take it on a weekly basis.
